The purchase of a burial space refers to the purchase of ‘burial rights’ which will buy a right to use of the burial ground although the land and all fauna and flora continue to be owned by The Green Burial Company.
Burials
Burial plots are for single use only.
At Olney Green Burial there are two burial areas, the woodlands and meadow area.
The full size woodland burial plots are spaced to allow each individual tree planted on the graves to grow to maturity. Trees are selected from a list and planted during the dormant time of the year, usually between November and March.
The meadow area plots are set closer together and because of the reduced area they do not have individual trees, although trees are planted in and around the graves and in time this area will flow into, and become part of the whole woodland.
Cremation
Small plots with individual trees are used for cremated remains and are situated in areas where the tree will have the room to grow to a mature specimen. These areas could be corner plots or on the edge of walkways.
Small single ash burial plots are within the copse area of the ground, although these plots do not have individual trees the circular area has been pre planted with wild shrubs and trees and all plots include a small oak plaque.
Memorials
You may wish to mark the resting place of a loved one; this can be in the form of a simple wooden plaque or an engraved tree stake, both of which can be supplied/purchased by Olney Green Burial.
The wooden plaques are natural oiled oak and are placed centrally on the grave at ground level.
The tree stakes are an alternative tree support supplied in natural green oak and the engraving can be on up to three sides leaving one side clear to attach to the tree.
Benches
In order to maintain the natural woodland the number of benches available will be limited.
We are currently not allowing any further benches on site.
